Your First Orthodontic Visit

Your first visit will begin with a tour of the office, followed by a relaxed, informal meeting with Dr. Adrio. He will then do a preliminary oral exam and determine if treatment is indicated, at this time.

If it is determined that treatment is indicated, you will be scheduled for diagnostic records, which can often be completed at the initial visit. These records usually consist of digital radiographs and photographs, along with impressions for diagnostic models of the teeth. Once these orthodontic records have been obtained, Dr. Adrio will review them and determine a specific treatment plan for your orthodontic needs. A follow-up visit is then scheduled so the specific treatment plan can be reviewed and financial arrangements made.

Successive Visits

Periodic visits are an important part of orthodontic treatment. Generally, we will want to see you every 6-8 weeks for 20-30 minutes to check your progress and make adjustments to your braces or appliances. While in treatment, you will need to keep scheduled appointments, follow instructions, eat nutritiously, and practice good oral hygiene. You will also continue to see your dentist for regular check-ups.

Once your braces are removed, retainers are utilized to hold your teeth in their new positions while bone, gums and muscles adapt to the new teeth positions. They are usually worn full time for a few months, then only while sleeping.

Length of Treatment

Most cases are complete in 18-24 months. However, some minor treatment can be accomplished in only a few months, while more complicated cases may take 24-36 months..

Dental Care

Before any orthodontic treatment, your general dentist should make certain your teeth and gums are healthy. Your dentist should also schedule cleaning and cavity check-up visits during your orthodontic care.
